This episode finds Agent Pendrell assisting Agent Scully in her investigation of a mysterious happening. Agent Pendrell dons a Level 4 "Outbreak" suit! However, Pendrell worries that even this suit might not be enough to ward off the toxin that has been killing scientists left right and center. Pendrell investigates the strange "death" of the scientist in charge of cutting open the Mars rock. Thus Pendrell helps add yet another piece of the complex puzzle surrounding the black cancer.
